The completely unofficial
NANAE Kook Kollektion
NANAE's least wanted!
- kook
-
[Usenet; originally and more formally, net.kook] Term used to describe a
regular poster who continually posts messages with no apparent grounding in
reality. Different from a troll, which implies a sort of sly wink on the
part of a poster who knows better, kooks really believe what they write,
to the extent that they believe anything.
- The Jargon File
NANAE, by its very nature, attracts many a conspiracy theorist,
anti-censorship nut, promotor of the Final Ultimate Solution to Spam and
other individuals who appear to be less mentally stable. A newsreader which
has support for filtering out certain posts (a "killfile") is highly
recommended when reading NANAE.
Who are the kooks?
This is subjective and a bit of a loaded question. However, there are a
number of individuals who are recognized as kooks by most of the regulars
on NANAE. On these pages, I attempt to keep track of those, but even my
attempt is likely to be colored by my own personal opinion. You should
read NANAE for a while yourself and then decide whom to listen to.
Responding to kooks...
Many of the regulars prefer that the kooks are not responded to at all,
since this usually encourages them to post more, instead of disappearing
silently. Some even go as far as killfiling everyone who regularly responds
to a kook. This author does not fully agree with said policy, as there are
both signs that some of the kooks won't shut up no matter what, and there is
a real danger that some of them are taken seriously by first-timers if they
go unopposed. You should decide for yourself.
The [kook] tag...
In respect of those who prefer not to be exposed to kookery at all if it
can be helped (and to avoid getting killfiled yourself), you are asked to
add the string '[kook]' (without the quotes) to the subject of your post
when you are responding to an individual who is generally recognized as a
kook.
Currently active kooks...
Kooks come and go. Below are only those who are currently or were recently
active.
